Setting the depth with plastic flange is key...
as a home owner I had to read the instructions many times until everything clicked and worked fine once you had it. the copper valve has a male cold/hot inlet and a male outlet for shower/bath. you have to buy a pvc cap if you only use it for a shower which i did. they don't offer this cap which i thought they should because it's really cheap. i took 2 trips to lowes since the first plug i bought was brass and didn't fit - i needed a pvc plug to seal off my non existent bath supply. these pvc caps have a small lip that prevents the valve body from aligning with your clog. so I used shims to level this just under the mounting screws. your project will probably need shims to get the exact depth.
