I don't even know what this does but I had to get it!..
my husband told me to match it with another item. i wish they were universal as we had to order several to match certain materials. will update if there are any problems with the installation.

WELL CONSTRUCTED..
easy to install and the valve body appears to be well constructed and finished. this came in a shower cubicle and in hindsight I'm a bit sorry I didn't have a flow regulator and I don't always need the full flow of water.

I will keep the cartridge they send as a spare because I now am not sure how good the cartridge reliability will be..
I bought this faucet for a bathroom renovation. the plumber installed the faucet and came back a week later to finish the job after the tiling in the shower was completed. it has a defective cartridge and cannot be turned off completely. the plumber will buy a spare cartridge tomorrow. i called pfizer and they quickly agreed to send a replacement cartridge with expedited shipping. i keep the cartridge they send as a spare because i don't know how good the cartridge reliability will be. cartridge issues seem to be a recurring theme in reviews of this valve.

Metal Stem is Nice..
the stem is brass as shown. I wanted something heavier that would last a long time. cartridges can be both removed and replaced over time with a smaller access hole in the tile (left open when tiling) than the other pfister model I considered and bought but then sent back because it had a plastic rod and an oversized access hole. i bought an open box offer and saved a ton and the valve works great. note: If you experience low flow of one or both hot/cold immediately after installation, remove the valve body and clean the screens on the back of the cartridges. they can become clogged with flow in the pipes due to the sweating of new pipes.

Good valve - easy to install and sturdy construction..
i bought a pfister tub and shower combo kit online thinking i got a phenomenal deal for the price at lowe's or home depot. I didn't realize it didn't come with the raw valve. my husband, an entrepreneur, was also shocked because he said they usually do. i was happy to find them on bath1. they were a better price than anywhere I could find them. they were easy to install using the included instructions. I'm glad I chose the one with the brass rod. it seems more durable as we haven't had any looseness or wobble so far. we also appreciate the compatibility of this valve with the use of pex tubing. we just redecorated our entire place with pex as it is so easy to install and use if needed.

Attention to detail!..
price-pfister plumbing components are top quality and extremely well made. i originally bought a delta set from a local big box and sent it back because i was just not happy with the look and style. i bought this valve because i liked the look of the handle. the lever set was very well made and I was even more impressed with the valve. what makes it so good is the details that matter and the price pfister really pays attention to it. first, the valve is flat on its back and has pre-drilled holes on the ears so you can attach it to a piece of wood. most valves are not flat and cannot attach to anything. if you are not a professional plumber, this is a nice feature because you can mount the faucet perpendicular to the wall. the delta assembly I bought was held in place by just piping it up which is fine once soldered in place but extremely difficult to mount in the exact position you want. since there are reference marks for mounting the valve perpendicular to the wall, this must be done by eye. which is not easy if you only have stallions. i was very careful with the delta and it looks good but after climbing the walls you could see with that valve turned off i was able to position it exactly very easy and it went perfectly. the second nice feature of this valve is that you can solder the copper directly to the pipe or use the fip fitting if you are using pex. most other valves are one or the other but not both (the delta had a fip which made it difficult to install as I was using copper) third the valve comes with a plastic cover that you only use for roughening and at preparing the wall and installing the tile to protect it until you are ready to install the trim. the cover also acts as a guide so that the guard is flush with the finished wall so that you can install the valve at the correct depth. with the delta it was all guesswork. a bit more expensive than other sanitary facilities, but worth it.
